Finleyville, a small town south of the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA and a bit in the country, was, at one time, I am quite sure, and active coal mining town. This house is situated near the "downtown" area and is one of two large stately homes in this are that I have had my eye on for a while. On a trip to the market one day during snow showers I saw it in the light and weather that I was after. The color scheme of yellow and blue is quite intense and a bit risky for a painting but I did want to capture this unique feature of the large old Victorian.
