This painting was done in my studio using a photo reference from when I was in France. that particular day I tried my best to paint with my other artist friends but I was not feeling well. We had gone as a group to this location because our French group thought it would be loaded with subject matter and as promised it was....problem was, I was sitting in the back of a small car going around a bunch of turns and bends, couldn't see out very well and I do get motion sickness easily. A sailor I would not make. I did do a small quick oil sketch of this particular scene but it remained in France as the result of a trade with one of my French artist friends. I spent a good bit of the day laying on my back in the grass with a cap over my eyes. Not what you want to be doing when you have an opportunity to paint in France but to eventually end up with this painting......it was worth it.
